실리아 에렌스 – 수직적 의식 ‘Vertical Awareness’ South Korea

31/10/2019
Press, Projects

For the Triennial in 2019, curator Sun A Moon of APAP 6 (“Anyang Public Art Project 6”) invited an (inter)national group of 47 artists on the theme of “Symbiotic City”. Studio Daan Roosegaarde (NL) opened the exhibition with the “Smog Free Project” in the centre of Anyang. I was asked to make a site-specific sound walk.

“Vertical awareness” started from the Anyang Art Center and ended in the Anyang Art Park at the top of “the Observatory”, designed by MVRDV during the first Triennial in 2005.
The headphone-walk creates a sound horizon of Anyang, a city in transition, in its attempt to form a symbiosis between city noise and the surrounding nature.

LÛD Sound Art in Rijsterbos August 15 – October 15

There is nothing to tell me

“In the warm air the swallows swirl again, high up I think a see a lark ascending….There is nothing to tell me there’s a war on”.
A line from the book of the Belgian writer Stefan Hertmans about WW1 made me connect my sound walk with Belgian refugee camps in Gaasterland during WW1 and with asylum seeker centers in the neighborhood.

Fifteen local and (inter) national visual artists have been invited to LÛD.
The Gaasterland Art Society wants this exhibition to give an impression of the enormous diversity that exists within the world of sound art.

Sonic Field Work&Walk in De Appel CP ‘Brace for Impact’

Projects, Workshops/Guest Lectures

At the invitation of Miriam Wistreich (DK) and Arkadiusz Póltorak (PL) of the Curatorial Programme of De Appel I made in an inspiring collaboration the sound exhibition ‘Sonic Field Work’.
The sonic aspect of the Chinese globalization could be heard. Outside visitors could listen to the audible separation of the CIAM city functions (dwelling, working, recreation, and transportation) in garden city Amsterdam Nieuw-West, constructed by urban designer Cornelis van Eesteren. A small library was installed with publications about city planning, architecture, sound art and their relations in between.
‘Sonic Field Walk Lely’ took place in the monumental stairwell of Broedplaats Lely, built by architect J. B. Ingwersen.

How can I design a loudspeaker setup in an exhibition space where the speakers enter into a dialogue with each other, and within which the visitor chooses his/her own route through the sound universe?

I had to learn to walk again.
I had this feeling, when at the end of June I started work with the audiofiles which are going to form the basis of Time Lapse China. As if I were jumping, stepping from one discipline into another.

I just received a ‘Development Budget’ by the AFK to do research on how to develop an exhibition-context for ‘Time Lapse China’ (a binaural sound research on the globalization of urban China 1986-2015).
For me is this research a first: a development from headphone- to loudspeaker-presentations.
